Pioneer Spotlight: Lauren Watt

Growing up, I traveled a decent amount from Austin back to Northern California where my family is from, as well as to the mountains in Colorado. I have always treasured those trips and those experiences, and definitely caught the “travel bug,” knowing there was so much out there to see and explore.

After college, I was working full time teaching Yoga, Pilates, and Barre classes, and after about 2 years of this, felt the calling for a new adventure. I connected with a fellow yoga teacher out in Maui, and was offered the opportunity to go work for a local studio on island. I had no other connections and had never moved out of state before, but I knew that I had to get out of my comfort zone, take a “risk”, and move across the ocean to see what else was out there for me. My experience moving to Maui has forever shaped my perspective on life and travel. The people, experiences, hardships, and joy that I have gained from moving to Maui has taught me so much about myself and what I want to create for my life. If there is one thing I would recommend to anyone feeling stuck, confused, and unmotivated in their life right now, I would say take a trip. Shift your perspective and be willing to get uncomfortable.

This “travel bug”, has now turned into a “freedom bug.” Freedom to continue to create and experience life in a way that is authentic to me, freedom to invest in my passions and personal development, freedom to work and travel from anywhere in the world, and to help others realize their true potential for living a meaningful life. This desire to create a freedom lifestyle led me to an opportunity where I have become an online entrepreneur, sharing and coaching others into how to create their own successful online business through a training platform and community called Breakaway Movement. This community is full of passionate, high vibe, like minded individuals dedicated to sharing and promoting health, sustainability, and financial freedom. This opportunity is an invitation to anyone feeling inspired to change your reality around work, and truly start investing in yourself and what brings you joy, while also making a positive impact on the world and people around you. Here are some tips and recommendations when visiting Maui:

The North Shore of Maui is my favorite place to hang out, eat, and beach! Paia is a charming surfer town with some of my favorite restaurants on island, such as, Flatbread Pizza Co, Café De Amis, Choice Health Bar, and Paia Bay Coffee. On the road to Hana, Paia is normally the first stop along the way, so make sure you grab some breakfast and fill up your gas tank! The trip to Hana is definitely worth the windy roads, with so many beautiful hikes, waterfalls, and beaches. In Hana town, check out the red sand beach and grab a burrito at the Surfing Burro! For a treat on your drive home, stop at Coconut Glen’s for some amazing vegan ice cream.

There is an abundance of healthy food options on island. On the west side of the island, make sure to check out Moku Roots and AA roots. It’s a beautiful drive over to Lahaina, and you might even see some whales if you are there during winter season! If you’re visiting the south side of the island, check out the food truck AlohaEats, and Maui Brew Co for some local brews.

Maui is truly a magical place, so remember to respect the island, respect the locals, and appreciate this beautiful place we are all lucky enough to experience. Aloha!
